How do you access local LAN file VPN tunneling to another network?

jumpingrightin asked:

I use a VPN tunnel to connect to a corporate IT remotely. However, I have a LAN which has a network printer on it. While connected with VPN tunneling to the corporate IT the local LAN doesn’t appear. How can this be accomplished so that while connect VPN remotely be able to still send to the local LAN printer? Can this be solved with software or would an additional piece of hardware be needed?

The VPN enables you to link to the remote LAN. However, this does not in and of itself permit you to see the pcs and hardware on the LAN. It requires permissions that permit you access.

The best and probably only way for you to be able to do what you wish to do is to get the system administrator of the LAN to set up the permissions.

You are using a VPN client that does not allow ’split-tunneling’ and ALL your traffic is being forced over the tunnel to the remote network. This is done for security reasons. It’s possible to disable split-tunneling depending on the client, but it needs to be done by the VPN administrator.
