This is difficult to responsibly answer without much more information – probably requires more information than can be posted here. When we say that it stops forwarding traffic, do we mean traffic cannot leave any port on the switch? Or that two VLAN’s cannot talk? Or that devices within the same VLAN cannot talk, even though frames ingree/egress on ports.

You best bet, without a doubt, is to open a TAC case ASAP – I hope that you have a support contract for your 4507. I have worked with a LOT of Cisco switches, and items like this are not common, so again, I would start with TAC. That being said, you can also do a little “digging” on your own as well. Check your port counters, during this freezing, do they still increment? In both directions? If you put a sniffer on a PC, and then send pings from a device in the same VLAN, does it receive the echo? Does it send an echo-reply? If that same PC, pings it’s default gateway, what are your results then? If the issue is only between two VLAN’s (intraVLAN traffic is fine) then run that ping test with some debug on the router (of course use caution with this as debugs used in a non-responsible manner can cause many problems).

    Hope this helps.
