can i share a lan internet connection to a desktop using a phone line cable only?

lan
Jaero asked:

i have a laptop and a desktop both with a phone line jack. The laptop has a lan card that i use to get internet connection, but the desktop doesnt have it. Is it possible to share the internet connection to desktop by just using a phone line cable only? If it is, can you give a step-by-step instruction on how to do it? thanks.

Get a NIC for the desktop, they are REAL cheap – like $4.99(or less)

    yes i guess….

but i had the same problem and i couldnt find a solution because when connecting the laptop to the computer its peer-to-peer network i think for our problem we need a hub (switch) in between so that the internet host computer would act like a server and the other one would act like a client otherwise in peer-to-peer options are limited

*Assuming* it’s not a modem and in fact a network card (NIC) then the technical answer is yes. You can use a phone line (2 pair) to get 10Mb/s internet but it’s a lot easier to get something standard. Setting this up through a phone line is a real pain and a lot of effort!

No. You need a router, and will need to add a network card to the machine without.
